The paintings by Joseph Rosa show idealized scenery from Italy and the Alpine countries.

With his idyllic scenery, cheerful people and picturesque animal depictions, Joseph Rosa offers Romanticism in its purest manifestation.

The river and mountain landscapes contain a wealth of small genre depictions from rural life. Descended from a dynasty of animal painters, Rosa also added numerous animal figures to his paintings.
