If you want to film in Schönbrunn you need official permits before you can start filming.

Photographs from Schoenbrunn may not be distributed and sold on commercial picture agencies.

We will be pleased to provide you with shooting permits for

Please contact us at least 3 weeks before starting the work!

The information we need from you for the contract:
who = applicant (name, address)

how many = persons of the team, equipment

Costs
No costs will be charged for film and photo shootings for current reports, documentations, scientific works and travel reports by the Schloß Schönbrunn Kultur- und Betriebsges.m.b.H (excluding any expenses).

Conditons of use for filming and photographing
  •  Fences and barriers are not allowed.

  • Our visitors have priority! Please be considerate!

  •  It is forbidden to climb or sit on, or make similar use, of fountains, statues, monuments and other structures.

  • Climbing over barriers or fences is not permitted.

  •  It is forbidden to step into the lawns or flower beds.

  • Remotely piloted aerial vehicles are not permitted.

  • There is a genereal prohibition on parking in the Ehrenhof (Parade Court)

  • Driving into the park area s not permitted.

  • All instructions issued by supervisory personnel must be complied with.

  • The production must not in any way damage the image or security of Schloß Schönbrunn Kultur- und Betriebsges.m.b.H. and Schönbrunn Palace; in particular no security measures or devices may be shown; furthermore, we will not permit any recording which may offend public morals, or which could be interpreted as racist, extreme right-wing, or intended to incite violence.

  • In the event of a failure to observe the conditions of use set out in section IV, the Producer shall be required to pay a penalty of € 4,000.00 per infringement to SKB. SKB is entitled to claim damages in excess of this penalty.

  • Appropriate reference to Schönbrunn Palace as the location for filming must be made in the film, and it must at the very least be named in the credits, using at least the wording: "Filmed on location: Schönbrunn Palace, Vienna".

Alternative 1: Film ticket for smaller productions

With max. 2 hours

SKB shall assign employees or other authorised persons to supervise the work in question. For this, the Company shall be charged the filmticket of € 309.00 (New price valid from 15 March 2017: € 400.00) including value added tax.

Film and photographing teams with more than 4 staff members will be charged twice the price of film tickets (due to extra work required).

These costs shall be paid at the cash desk before start of the work. A refund of costs shall not be possible..

Alternative 2: for middle productions

The company shall be charged the flat rate of € 500.00 (New price valid from 15 March 2017: € 625.00) plus value added tax. SKB shall assign employees or other authorised persons to supervise the work in question.

The company shall be charged the following hourly rates plus value added tax:

Superintendent: € 52,50 | from 10 pm to 7.00 am: twice the rate
Supervisor: € 38.00 | from 10 pm to 7.00 am: twice the rate

The number of supervisors to be assigned shall be determined by SKB at its own discretion, account being taken of the type, duration and extent of the works.

Conditions of use
  • Filming and photographing is only allowed outside the opening hours.

  • Filming may only be carried out with battery-powered light or hand-held floodlights (low voltage 12 volt per lamp head, not exceeding 100 volt: no UV, cold light). Direct illumination of original materials, wallpapers and/or paintings is prohibited.

  • There is an absolute prohibition on the use of flash light for photography.

  • For curatorial and security reasons, the windows and shutters may not be opened.

  • Filming/Photographing behind the barriers is not permitted.

  • Rooms closed by special barriers (glass doors) may be neither opened nor entered.

  • The furniture may be neither used nor moved.

  • Dramatic scenes are not permitted.

  • There is a strict prohibition on smoking and food in the entire display area.

  • All instructions issued by supervisory personnel must be complied with.

  • Staff members of the film and photographing teams must remain with their teams and may only move away when accompanied by a supervisor.

  • The production must not in any way damage the image or security of Schloß Schönbrunn Kultur- und Betriebsges.m.b.H. and Schönbrunn Palace; in particular no security measures or devices may be shown; furthermore, we will not permit any recording which may offend public morals, or which could be interpreted as racist, extreme right-wing, or intended to incite violence.

Reproductions and Photo Enquiries

The Schloss Schönbrunn Kultur- und Betriebsges.m.b.H. avails of a large photograph archive and the imaging copyright for the art and cultural holdings and property in its ownership and which have been transferred to it for preservation.

Archived here are digital data, Ektachromes and negatives of the photographs of room views and objects from its own holdings and those that have been transferred. Approval has to be obtained before an intended reproduction. The reproduction charge depends on purpose, number of copies, format, language and distribution area.

Collection Inventory of the Photograph Archive

The photograph archive of the Schloss Schönbrunn Kultur- und Betriebsges.m.b.H. contains photographs of the entire complex of Schönbrunn, its gardens and garden objects, also the palace and its interior. Furthermore, the photograph archive encompasses the Imperial Apartments in the Vienna Hofburg and the Imperial Silver Collection. It documents the continuous changes since the late nineteenth century until today. The room-view photographs of the Ceremonial Rooms are constantly updated after restoration and furnishing reconstructions.
