Building projects
During the 19th century this room was furnished as a study for Archduchess Sophie, the mother of Franz Joseph. Intensely ambitious, Sophie energetically pursued an ultimately successful plan to secure the Habsburg throne for her son. In 1848 Franz Joseph succeeded his uncle Ferdinand as Emperor of Austria.
This room was originally a library and has bookshelves concealed behind the hinged panelling.
