As of now, users of the new online service “Google Indoor Maps” can explore Schönbrunn Palace from room to room.

The new Google service was started in Austria. “Google Indoor Maps” allow you a practical look into the interior of buildings. Schönbrunn Palace has made its room plans available to the public for this project  - another useful feature, besides audio guides and tour descriptions.

The interior views of 18 other buildings are now accessible as of today via Google Indoor Maps – among them the University of Innsbruck and the Ars Electronica Center in Linz.

If you zoom in close enough within the Google maps, the building plan of the Imperial palace opens up automatically.

You can find the exact spot your are in as a user through the position tracking feature on the mobile terminal; this will be imaged in the map.

The overall survey map changes according to which floor you are on or the direction you are moving in.

For the Schloß Schönbrunn Kultur- und Betriebsgesellschaft (SKB) this new service is also an important service in terms of barrier freedom: “It is of great significance particularly for people of physical disability how and where they can view a building barrier-free,” says Daniela Holzer, Online Marketing Manager of the SKB.
